Kundalini Yoga

What is Kundalini Yoga?

KUNDALINI YOGA is a style of yoga which improves flexibility, tones muscles, calms the mind, and strengthens the nervous, glandular, circulatory and immune systems.

The physical practice is always balanced by relaxation in order to train the body to experience deeply relaxed muscles and allow the mind to find deep peace and contentment. Relaxation also allows the effects of the exercise to take root in the physical body and the mind.

The practice of Kundalini Yoga allows energy to move more freely throughout your entire body and specifically balances the energy flowing through the chakras, energy centres aligned from base of the spine to the crown of the head, plus the aura chakra that surrounds and protects the body.

Classes explore a variety of yoga postures and movements, mantras, breathing techniques, yoga nidra relaxation and meditation.

Kundalini energy refers to the yogic life force that normally lies dormant at the base of the spine. Kundalini Yoga activates this energy and moves it safely up the spine so the other chakras can utilise and enjoy this abundant, joyful, unlimited source of energy, making it available for our daily lives.

There are many different 'Kriyas' in Kundalini Yoga. A Kriya is a sequence of actions for a specific purpose. Some kriyas are gentle and meditative, some are physically challenging, others are mentally challenging.

There are Kriyas for tuning up the entire body and then there are more Kriyas specifically for particular chakras, organs and glands, and more Kriyas and Meditations specifically aimed at particular conditions such as depression, insomnia, and addictions, broken hearts, anger and frustration, to name a few.

All the Kriyas and Meditations help us to find our gentle strength and flexibility (both physical and mental) and bring us to a place where deep relaxation is possible ...and when deep deep relaxation is found we recharge and renew ourselves over and over to face life's challenges in a serene and calm way!

Classes are run in 6-8 week blocks with payment made in advance.  Missed classes can be taken in any other class during the same timeframe, if there is space.

About Meditations

KUNDALINI YOGA has many beautiful Meditations to help us with a variety of life's challenges. We usually do a short meditation at the end of class. This is a great way to learn how to meditate and these short 3 min meditations can be practiced daily for a profound effect on our daily lives.

There are meditations for fear, anxiety, anger and frustration, insomnia, depression, addiction and broken hearts.

There are meditations for abundance, for staying grounded despite your great wealth (!).

There are meditations for loneliness and fear of poverty, negative thinking and denial.

Learning to Meditate is never wasted. We can tap into the greater connection to both ourselves and a higher power if we so believe in one. There are no criteria to meditate. One does not need to believe in a higher power other than themselves! If one does believe in a force greater than themselves (nature, god, universe) it is a great way to tap into that source and find peace, calm and replenishment.

Kundalini Yoga and Meditation are simply a technology given to us by Yogi Bhajan for greater awareness and require no belief in a particular spirituality or religion.
